Smoothing Capacitor

If an ac mains voltage is taken though a bridge rectifier making it a dc voltage. So why does frequency come in to the equation for a smoothing capacitor.

The DC output from a rectifier consists of pulses

If the AC mains supply frequency is 50Hz the output from the bridge rectifier will consist of DC pulses at a frequency of 100Hz (two pulses for one AC cycle).
