timer switcher

Having read the article on using an ic for a switcher and timer does anyone have a diagram and parts list for such a device that would work on 12v and switch a 12v device

The 555 timer will do that!

The 555 circuits that you have been reading about here can run on 12V DC and can control a 12V device.

You have two options:

1) Get the 555 output to switch on a relay, and attach the device to the relay. This is the easiest method.
2) Get the 555 output to switch on a suitable transistor.

Both methods are discussed at www.eleinmec.com/article.asp?1

By the way, if you wanted to control an AC mains device, you could use a triac - maybe I'll do an article on these at some point!
