Which semiconductor will be the best

Hello,
i m working on the project of D.C motor speed control i have used irf540,mosfet, but was unable to provide the current required. pls could u tell me what type of semiconductor,mosfet or transistor, will be suitable with the package number.

The motor is of 15V and requires 3.5A.
