Would a To-3 style case (with collector inside itself) affect the way the darlington pair circuit is wired up?

TO3 case

The Base, Collector and Emitter connections must be connected to the same places, so it will be the same circuit but you will certainly need to adapt the physical layout.

How

How so? It didnt change at all with the bigger transistor as I used wires to locate the transistor and heatsink away from the circuit board. Do any other changes need to be made?

No changes needed

If you are using wires to connect to the transistor off the board there is no need to make any changes.

case styles

To get a robust connection when mounting the transistor off board the use of veropins in place of the transistor leads is recommended.
