how can i measure frequency of a mains supply

hi there, ive got a project i have to do which involves creating something that will measure the frequency of a mains supply then display it on the computer ( which i have to create a program for using java ,C or any other language).

please can somebody help me

hiya, im doing the same project at uni and kinda confused where to start. The circuits has sort of been taken care of but im not sure how to start the software program to calculate and display the result. Was hoping you might be able to help if uv figured out how. Much appreciated.
