5% resistors use the E24 series: 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36, 39, 43, 47, 51, 56, 62, 68, 75, 82, 91 then it continues 100, 110 etc. This is the more common E12 series (10, 12, 15 etc) with an extra value in all the gaps. For most circuits the E12 series is adequate.
M = Mega = million, k = kilo = thousand. These symbols may be used to replace the decimal point, for example 4k7 = 4.7k = 4700. Omega is the symbol for ohm, the unit of resistance (usually not shown in circuit diagrams).
