making a 555 timer produce a set pulse number

I need to get a specific number of pulses out of a 555 timer when it is triggered. The one-pulse monostable is easy, but can I get JUST TWO pulses in any way? The astable 555 is difficult to stop accurately after two pulses.
My start pulse time is 0.5 seconds. I want to get two separate output pulses 0.5 seconds apart.
